Glyn Ford

Founder, Executive Director

Glyn Ford was a Member of the European Parliament for over 25 years (1984-2009). Serving on both the International Trade and Foreign Affairs Committee, particularly on dossiers related to Asia, his experience gave him unrivalled knowledge and networks in Brussels and across the world.

In the European Parliament, Glyn was rapporteur for the Free-Trade Agreement with ASEAN, for implementing the Scientific Partnership Agreement with the Republic of Korea, as well as a ‘shadow’ on the EU-Japan and EU-China trade agreements. He was also a member of the Delegation with the Japanese legislature (1984-2009) and the Korean Peninsula from its creation (2004-2009).

Leader of the European Parliamentary Labour Party and Deputy Leader of the Socialist Group, he served at various times on the Research, Technology and Energy, Justice and Home Affairs, Petitions and Rules Committees, along with the Sub-Committee on Security and Defence.

Alongside Polint, Glyn continues his engagement with the DPRK on a non-profit basis in the framework of the NGO Track2Asia. In a personal capacity, he is a Board Member of the North East Asian Economic Forum.

A published author, Polint’s Executive Director has released several widely acclaimed books, including Talking to North Korea (2018), North Korea on the Brink: Struggle For Survival (2007), and Making European Progress (2002).

Before entering the European Parliament, Glyn Ford was a Senior Research Fellow in Manchester University’s Department of Science and Technology Policy. He also served as a Visiting Professor at Sussex University, the University of Tokyo and the East-West Centre in Hawaii.

Alexia Ruvoletto

Senior Account Manager

Alexia is an Italian political analyst with a background in EU law. She holds a Law Degree in European and Transnational Law from the University of Trento (Italy). She joined Polint in early 2019 after working on foreign direct investments in a top-tier law firm for more than 4 years. In the past she has also been a trainee at the European Union Delegation in China, focusing on international trade.

At Polint, she is responsible for managing relations with clients and supervising the team reporting to the Executive Director. She focuses on EU public affairs and EU-Asia trade and political relations.

Emmanuelle Pouget

Account Assistant

Emmanuelle is originally from France and holds a bilingual joint-MA in European Studies and International Relations from the University of Bath (UK), the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA) and Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). She also holds a BSc in International Business Management from Toulouse Business School.

Previous to joining Polint, she gained hands-on experience of the Southeast Asian region while interning in the Trade & Investment division of the United Nations in Thailand and in the Political Affairs Section of the EU Delegation in Cambodia. Furthermore, Emmanuelle worked as a junior researcher in an EU-Asia focused think tank in Brussels.

Guillermo Gallent

Research Trainee

Guillermo is originally from Spain and holds a BA in East Asian Studies from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and an MA in International Relations from the Barcelona Institute for International Studies. Guillermo has also spent a year studying at Ryukoku University in Kyoto (Japan) and half a year at Seoul National University (South Korea).

Previous to joining Polint, he interned with the European External Action Service in the Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific unit. Moreover, Guillermo gained experience on EU affairs while working as a trainee at the Catalan Government’s External Action Office.

Marius Risse

Research Trainee

Marius is originally from Germany and holds a BA in European Studies from Maastricht University. He is currently pursuing a dual Master’s degree in European and Asian Affairs at Sciences Po Paris and Fudan University in Shanghai. Marius also spent a semester studying at Seoul National University (South Korea).

Previous to joining Polint, Marius gained professional experience as a trainee in the European Parliament as well as through internships in the German Bundestag and with a political organisation in Mongolia.

Cicely Spence

UK Office Manager

Cicely Spence is a writer and researcher based in Manchester. She has a BA degree from The University of Manchester in History of Art. Before joining Polint she worked at the Whitworth (Manchester) and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection (Venice).

At Polint UK, Cicely manages the UK office and provides business administrative support to the Director.
